While there has been some controversy surrounding Sprint and the HTC EVO 4G sales numbers, that was nothing compared to this. According to MobileCrunch, a Sprint employee got into the carrier's inventory system on June 6 to find out exactly how many EVOs had been sold and then posted the information online. The post, which has been deleted but still shows up in Google's cache, was found on the xda-developers forum:
“according to sprint we as a [company] have sold 66,483 theres a whole bunch of stores though that dont have any more inventory i dont think any major city sprint does”
MobileCrunch believes that the near 67,000 units sold does not account for EVOs sold at places like Radio Shack and Wal-Mart. After learning of the forum post, an internal Sprint team traced the employee back to his Florida store and went down to speak with him. Apparently, an internal Sprint security task force member pulled the employee into a room, laid out all of his posts in front of him, and then fired him. While some feel that the treatment the employee received was a little harsh, others say that Sprint had every right to terminate the worker for sharing sales information online. As with any information leak, however, we're sure that Sprint was well within their rights to fire the employee. Depending on what the worker agreed to during their employment, they may be in for something worse than a termination, as well. What do you think of this situation?
