Though all eyes were likely on the Palm Pre Plus dummy units that shipped in the same box, the Pantech Breeze II is worth a look - and as of today, it's available at AT&T.
I had some hands-on time with the Pantech Breeze II at CTIA a few months ago, and I came away impressed. The menu structure is intuitive and easy to use, and perhaps most importantly, it provides a nice alternative for those that use their phone for occasional calls only. Features include a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, video capture, 3G connectivity, a microSD card slot, external shortcut touch buttons, and three physical shortcut keys below the internal display. The Breeze II can be had for $19.99 sans rebate online, or in store for $19.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate (at the time of this writing) and two-year agreement.
Sure, it's basic, but smartphones aren't for everyone. Keeping that in mind, I could see the Breeze II being the perfect device for Mom, or as a backup "just in case" device (hey, the full retail price is only $170). Anyone thinking the same?
