There’s an interesting twist in the Nexus One’s slated January launch: Apparently, Google is following the pattern set by the company’s GMail, Voice and Wave projects by limiting the Android handset’s release to only a limited number of invitees. We’re not sure what it takes to get on the list, but developer partners probably stand a decent chance of getting the green light.

As if demand for this phone wasn’t enough. If you happen to be one of the few who actually gets their hands on this phone in a couple of weeks, you may not want to go showing it off in real life too much (that is, unless you enjoy being mobbed by phone geeks). But firsthand user impressions are always welcome. (hint hint)

The device’s specs have been widely leaked — including 5 MP camera, 3.7” 800 x 480 display, 1 Ghz processor, AGPS and T-Mobile bands — and it seems like no late-breaking changes are on the menu, except for some additions: Wifi n, 512 MB of memory, and 7.2 Mbps data downlink.

So far, we’re hearing $199, but it’s not confirmed yet. I suppose it won’t be long until we know for sure.
