It's no secret - despite retaining a respectable number of users in other markets, Symbian isn't the most popular smartphone OS in the United States.  To that extent, Nokia plans a few improvements to the user interface that will offer multitouch support for large displays, clean up some of the clutter found in the OS, improve the browser experience (good), reduce the number of steps it takes to accomplish a task, and make the general UI three times faster.  Nokia went on to say that 350 unnecessary user prompts will be removed.  According to Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, the resulting changes will be "magical."

Sounds good to me - with the iPhone, Android, and webOS making significant inroads in the consumer marketplace, it only makes sense.  What will it be: Symbian or Maemo?
