BlackBerry fans may love their texting and emailing on their handsets, but even many of them acknowledge that the onboard web browser could stand some improvement. If you’re one of them, the latest item from RIM might hold something that interests you.

First, it acquired Torch Mobile, a software firm known for its WebKit mobile browser. Now, RIM has just announced that it’s looking for more WebKit developers to work on a new browser for the BB platform:

Utilizing their knowledge in C++ programming, the successful candidate will be working in a fast-paced, dynamic development environment to develop a WebKit-based browser for the BlackBerry Platform. (-CareerBeacon)

A browser overhaul has been long overdue, so this is great news for “CrackBerry” fiends. What’s not clear, though, is when it will land. And will it be a brand new browser built from the ground up, or an optimization of Torch Mobile’s pre-existing Iris project? The answer can make a lot of difference to the timeline. We have our fingers crossed that it’s an update, and one that will be coming soon.
