Despite the industry trend to migrate towards LTE, Sprint and Clearwire are continuing their commitment to WiMAX technology.  Shortly after announcing the launch of WiMAX in Las Vegas on August 1st, Sprint followed up by announcing new markets for 2009.  Atlanta and Portland will go live in August, while the companies hope to have WiMAX up and running in Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Honolulu, Philadelphia, and Seattle by the end of 2009.

In addition to the announcement, Sprint mentioned that data cards will be offered starting in the $20 price range.  Not a bad rollout schedule by any means.  According to Sprint, WiMAX offers peak downloads of 10 Mbps with average speeds running between 3 and 6 Mbps.  Anyone interested in picking up a 4G data card?
