Ubuntu is my daily driver, and I look for just about any excuse to proselytize the masses by means of my virtual soapbox here at PhoneDog. Linux just exceeded 1% of the market share, so I must be doing something right!
Anyone who has paid much attention to the G1 hacking/modding community knows that it's possible to run Debian Linux on the device. But take a look at the photos below. Some clever folks from Singapore are running the Debian-based Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope with LXDE - Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment. I use Gnome and am unfamiliar with LXDE, but I see a desktop switcher with four workspaces available.
The prerequisites are an A2SD install (which I have), alot of SD space (check), and either some killer hacking skills or a lot of free time and patience (not so sure on any of these). Regardless of my own participation, I'm glad to know it's happening.
For the daring or reckless, here's the how to - it's your business.
