We should probably start a sticky page to keep track of all of the rumored new phones floating around the Internet. You know, one page we'd refresh whenever there's new news, and one link you could bookmark and come back to instead of asking me four times a week if I know anything more about the LG Xenon (No, I don't, LG denies its existence).
That page doesn't yet exist, though, so instead I'll give you this: A multi-post stream of consciousness list of every cell phone rumor I can think of pertinent to the US market for the foreseeable future. Rumors, people, these are all rumors. Don't go making your corporate IT plans for 2009 based on this stuff alone, okay?
Let's start with Apple since, you know, A comes first in the alphabet:
Apple
- iPhone 3G: Rumors of a memory bump to 16/32 GB as early as MacWorld (January). I'd give it a 60% chance of coming true.
- iPhone to Verizon: Everybody not on AT&T wants this, but I have no reason to believe it's going to happen in 2009. 15% chance.
- iPhone to Sprint: Heh, just heard that one today. Funny. 0.1% chance.
- iPhone nano: A Chinese manufacturing plant claims they're making new silicon cases based on the dimensions of an upcoming "Nano Phone" from Apple. On the one hand this jibes with those "$99 4GB iPhone" rumors. On the other hands it would open up a whole can of worms regarding App Store integration. On the third hand, a $99 iPhone with solid music/video playback, Email and Messaging features, a touchscreen, and a stripped down, no-App Store OS would probably sell by the boatload. 33.3% chance.
- iPhone at Walmart: Want to save two bucks on a new iPhone? 8GB model for $197 w/contract at Walmart, starting Dec. 28th. 99.9% chance
