Sony Ericsson toes the line between "feature phone" and "smartphone" with their new Z770 clamshell, meant to be an easy to use, stylish device for folks who need high-speed access to Web and Email but don't want a full on smartphone.  The Z770 - which is what the rumored Z660 actually turned out to be - is a UMTS/HSDPA 2100 and GSM/EDGE 900/1800/1900 device, and so not optimized for use in North America, which is too bad since it boasts some interesting features.

The Z770, according to SE's press release, will feature easy email setup including Exchange ActiveSync for push-email, simple laptop tethering via HSDPA connection, Google Maps for Mobile, and a new Web browser featuring pan and zoom navigation (sounds like Nokia's S60 browser to me).

You'll also find a 2mp camera and media player with stereo Bluetooth support on the Z770.  Measuring 93 x 48 x 15.5 mm and weighing just 91g, the Z770 sounds like an interesting mid-range device for users who want to stay abreast of Email, Web, and RSS feeds but don't necessarily want the bulk or complexity of a true smartphone.
