Amp'd is gone, ESPN is gone (though they've since been semi-reincarnated as a Verizon Wireless feature), and now Disney joins the ranks of Mobile Virtual Network Operators who've closed up shop. Effective September 27, Disney Mobile will no longer be selling content and applications, and they will "cease wireless operations as of December 31, 2007."
Disney Mobile is offering a reimbursement program that, according to their website, will cover handsets, accessories, and content. Full details of the program are slated to appear on the site by October 8th.
So Amp'd gave into the pressure of owing various folks $100 million and closed up ... ESPN Mobile never really got going, and now Disney's come and gone ... But Helio just got a $270 million investment from SK Telecom. Interesting. Especially since Helio's the only MVNO (to my knowledge) that controls design and production of their handsets along with their services. Well, that and mobile mySpace and YouTube, I guess ...
