According to a UBS research analyst Apple should break the 3 million iPhone sales mark by years end. I am going to go out on a limb and say that prediction is a little low ? by about ONE million, especially now that T-mobile customers and others are able to get an unlocked version.
If Apple can sustain its current pace of 27,000 iPhone orders a day until the end of the year they would sell and additional 2,916,000 on top of the million plus they have already sold putting the total sales closer to the 4 million mark . This is not an entirely unreasonable assumption considering that the original daily sales number was announced after the price drop, but before the unlocking software was readily available. We also have to consider the fact that more cell phones are purchased during the upcoming Holiday season than any other time of the year!
Now I know what you are thinking, will the next update affect all of the unlocked phones and those consumers considering purchasing an iPhone based on the fact it can be unlocked ? Maybe? But even if Apple issues an update that will lock the phone again (which is very likely) it won't remain locked for long. There are way too many smart and extremely motivated individuals out there who are determined to keep the iPhone available for everyone to use! I don't suspect the new "lock" will be that difficult to crack. Of course Apple wants to appease AT&T yet they can't ignore the current sales figures. = ;^ ]
If you are considering purchasing the iPhone, now is probably the best time to take the plunge ? honestly what else can you purchase for $300 that you are going to be able to use everyday - for at least a year anyway =;^]
