"Uncle" Walt Mossberg, he of the Wall Street Journal's "Personal Technology," column, is hosting the D: All Things Digital conference this week in Carlsbad, CA. In addition to getting Steve Jobs and Bill Gates to hang out on the same stage at the same time, Uncle Walt has also provided the platform for Palm founder Jeff Hawkins to take the wraps off of a new mobile device. A new category of devices, actually.
According to Palm's Press Release:
"Jeff Hawkins, founder of Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM), will host a live video webcast on Wed., May 30, to describe a new category of mobile device. The webcast will follow the announcement of this new product at the D: All Things Digital conference in Carlsbad, Calif."
The webcast kicks off at 11:30 am Pacific Time on Wed. the 30th. Speculation about the device has been centering around some sort of Linux-based handheld, possibly an UMPC (ultra mobile personal computer) type of device like the HTC Athena.
