The Sony Ericsson m600i is one of my favorite mobile phones of all time. I ultimately gave mine up because it lacked both a camera and a US-compatible 3G connection (or EDGE, for that matter). But the phone was sweet. Slim, great screen, great interface, and a very cool two-letters-per-key keyboard. Of course some people hated the phone because of that same keyboard, but style is a matter of preference.
SE just announced the p1i, the successor to both the m600i and p990i smartphones. The p1i looks like a slightly beefier m600i with a new color scheme and a 3.2 mp camera on the back. It still lacks US-spec 3G, but does bring WiFi to the mix. And it runs UIQ 3.1, the next generation of that Symbian OS user interface I loved so much on the m600i.
Experience Mobility has a video overview of the p1i shot, I believe, at the UIQ conference in Boston. The video's rather lame (as most gadget videos seem to be ... why is that?), but the phone is making me drool. I don't know what it is about UIQ, except that it's more "Mac-like" than any other phone interface I've seen ... but it makes me want it. Not want it to the tune of pre-ordering a p1i for $899 (the only price I've seen so far), but want it real bad all the same.
