Rumors, Rumors: Is This Sony Ericsson's 2007 Mobile Phone Lineup?
As 2006 winds down, some of us are compiling our various year end reviews and lists while others look forward to what 2007 might hold. Me, I'm gearing up for a little vacation (my honeymoon, actually!) and then a trip to CES in Las Vegas the first week of January to catch a glimpse of the future of the mobile phone industry.
While anything claiming to be "insider information" should be taken with a grain of salt, I couldn't help but pour over a certain thread over at Esato after it was mentioned on Engadget Mobile Wednesday morning. Shaliron, an Esato member who calls Melbourne, Australia home, has posted a preview of some 40 new mobiles that may be released by Sony Ericsson next year. Again, this is a posting on an Internet chat forum and not anything official from SE - so don't treat it as fact. But seeing the thread has some believable-looking "spy photos" and mentions an m600i successor with a 3.2 mp camera and Wi-Fi is on the roadmap, I couldn't help but get a little excited myself.
By the way, if you want to see a very cool looking, just announced Japan-only SE phone, check out the SO903i. That's one seriously sweet looking mobile.
Some highlights from the post:
"AI" - Ultra slim (9.4mm) candybar phone with metal/rubberized plastic body, Walkman 2 media player, and high-speed data capabilities.
W910 - High end flip phone w/3.2 MP camera, stereo speakers, possibly UIQ interface, similar specs to SO903i.
"Maria" - Successor to the flagship W950 Walkman phone, likely upgraded with 3.2 MP camera.
"Sofia" - Probable successor to the K790/800 Cyber-Shot phone. 5 megapixel camera to compete with Nokia N95.
"HandyCam Phone" - Slider phone with superior video recording capabilities.
"Elena" - Successor to the M600 smartphone, with Wi-Fi and a 3.2 megapixel camera.
CES (January 8-12), 3GSM (February 13-16) and CeBIT (March 15-21) are traditional venues for handset manufacturers to unveil their new goodies, so stay tuned ... 2007 promises to be a very exciting year for cutting-edge mobile technology.
