SCHAUMBURG, Ill., -- 14 DEC. 2005 ? The Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) is purchasing a $6.9 million Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) Mission Critical wireless communications system for its Baltimore/ Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) that will improve coordination between the airport and neighboring jurisdictions.
Early next year, Motorola will begin installing a wireless voice communication system that will enable all MAA personnel, including Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting, Maryland Transportation Authority Police, airport security, airport maintenance and airport operations to reach each other directly via a trunked radio system. When the system is complete, more than 700 users will be linked.
The new system also will provide MAA personnel with enhanced communications with public safety officials in Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Howard counties, as well as the City of Baltimore. Those government entities provide mutual aid services at the airport, and the airport provides mutual aid to those jurisdictions.

Project 25 is the interoperability standard for digital two-way wireless products adopted by manufacturers of two-way communications equipment. ?As part of the project, we are providing radios that will deliver true interoperability with other Project 25 trunked radio systems in the area.?
The contract will provide BWI, which plays a crucial transportation role in Maryland and the National Capital region, with Motorola's digital ASTRO 25 simulcast system. The contract covers more than 700 radios, infrastructure and system maintenance for three years.
