In this video, we will go over everything we can expect to see in the upcoming LG V30. So the LG V30 is the successor to the LG V20 which debuted towards the end of last year, 2016. First of all, we’re expecting the phone to be available at the end of August and we’ll open for pre-orders mid-September on September 17th and will go on sale likely on September 28th.
The build should be very similar to the build of the G6 in terms of build materials. There will likely be an aluminum rear with metal sides and an almost all-screen front, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and dual rear-facing camera sensors. We’re expecting an IP68 water- and dust-resistance rating, USB-C port on the rear of the phone, and 3.5mm headphone jack up top with a single bottom-facing speaker.
One of the iconic features of the V lineup was the secondary display and it looks like it’s not going to be making a return this time around. LG is focusing on the main display, the money maker. It should measure in at 6 inches and come packed with a 2880x1440 resolution-- that’s an 18:9 aspect ratio, once again, similar to the LG G6. And it should feature Dolby Vision and HDR10. But what has really caught my attention and has gotten me really excited is the display type so LG is opting in for an OLED panel as opposed to a traditional LCD panel. The G Flex was the only LG smartphone to feature an OLED panel so it’s really nice to see or at least read about rumors suggesting that the LG V30 will adapt an OLED panel that will deliver brighter, more vibrant and contrasty images. Furthermore, it’s also rumored to resemble the Galaxy S8 as LG is rumored to be curving the edges of the display.
The cameras could be the same as the LG G6-- one rear-facing 13-megapixel camera sensor paired with a wide-angle 13-megapixel camera sensor. The front camera sensor might get a slight resolution bump to 8 megapixels but it will be, more or less, the same. Some other rumored specifications include the Snapdragon 835 chipset with 6GB of RAM. We should at least see 4GB of RAM but it’s very possible we’ll see 6GB of RAM with either 32 or 64GB of internal storage. There will be a microSD card slot for expandable storage too, which is always nice.
The LG V20’s battery was removable while the LG G6’s battery is not. So we can expect to see a non-removable battery in the LG V30, given the more premium that LG is going to be pushing with this new smartphone.
Now LG has always really appealed to the audio lovers with its V lineup of smartphones. The V20 was the only smartphone in the world to include a 32-bit Quad DAC when it launched last year. So I’m expecting to see some pretty big audio related features from the V30. It’s kind of sad that I have to say this but I’m just looking forward to a headphone jack.
Android Nougat with a custom LG skin will be running on the software side of things and should be very similar to the LG G6 for better or for worse. I do want to make a video kind of detailing what went wrong with the LG G6, specifically why their sales aren’t better. I think that one of the main reasons really is the software so while we’re not going to see a big software improvement with the LG V30, I think there’s definitely going to be an argument made for wanting to get that improvement sooner than later.
Overall, the specs are all based off of leaks and rumors. Nothing is officially confirmed by LG. But we didn’t just pull these specs out of thin air or out of a hat. They’re based off of reputable sources. So that’s kind of a picture for you of what the LG V30 will be and should consist of.
