Apple has recently launched the new 10.5-inch iPad Pro. Starting at $649, it is not a cheap device by any stretch of the imagination but it does come packed to the gills with features which we are going to discuss right now.
First, we have the same great build quality that has defined Apple’s products over the years. There’s an aluminum shell with a glass display. What is different are the bezels. Apple has slimmed down the side bezels more than any other iPad. It’s primarily an aesthetic design change that I absolutely love it.
The display itself is one of the best features of the new iPad. Not only does it feature a wide color display, a True Tone display, a fully laminated display and fingerprint resistant Oleophobic coating and anti-reflective coating; it features a 2240x1668 resolution and ProMotion technology. ProMotion is a new technology that delivers refresh rates of up to 120Hz, which is the refresh rate that high end TVs have employed for years to keep content appearing ultra smooth. The 120Hz refresh rate on the iPad Pro makes scrolling through apps and swiping through your home screen is buttery smooth.
What’s also neat is that the software will calibrate the refresh rate and only use it when it’s needed to save you battery life. For example, if you’re looking at a static image, it’ll reduce the refresh rate because it is not needed. You’re not scrolling through multiple images. You’re just looking at one image so why do you need 120Hz refresh rate?
The Apple A10X Fusion chip for the iPad Pro is definitely a top feature. It’s a 6-core combination chip that puts a processor and graphics on the same semi-conductor chip. Apple says it has 40% faster graphics performance than its predecessors so gaming performance should be seriously improved.
Speaking of improvements, the cameras have been improved as well. Apple has brought the iPhone 7’s camera system to the iPad with the latest iPad Pro models. The iPad Pro features a 12-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and a 7-megapixel front-facing FaceTime HD camera.
Some other features include four speakers that are capable of delivering crazy high quality audio. It’s pretty impressive what kind of sound this crazy thin device can output. The 6.1mm thickness itself could be considered a feature.
The new iPad Pro, of course, has Touch ID that is built into the home button and a battery that should provide for up to 10 hours of use. When iOS 11 becomes officially available for the new iPad Pro, we’ll have to revisit this device and look at some of the new features available via the software because there are quite a bit of new features available in the next version of iOS.
