This right here is the Huawei Mate 10. This is not your ordinary Huawei Mate 10. This is the Huawei Mate 10 Porsche Design, which is now available here in the US for a grand total of $1225. But this is not the first product that Huawei and Porsche has in the past few years. There’s been numerous amounts of collaborations of Huawei devices getting that glamor Porsche Design-esque to it and the Huawei Mate 10 and is the latest edition to this. It is one of the best-looking devices. I’ve already looked online and I’m definitely really, really interested in taking a look for myself. This is definitely a high-end device, a statement maker (if you want to call it that) because you can go by your ordinary Huawei Mate 10 but there’s a Huawei Mate 10 with a Porsche Design name to it.
After fumbling for a few minutes, I finally got it. Here we go, front of the box. It just says “Porsche Design” on the front. The side just tells you “Porsche Design Mate 10 color diamond black.” You have 256GB of built-in storage, 6GB of RAM, and it also has that Leica branding because it has that Leica dual-lens camera. One is RGB camera and one is a monochrome camera so it can take awesome black and white photography-- if you’re into that kind of stuff. The box opens like so and there we go. Wow, that is a nice looking phone.
On the right, you have a Huawei Porsche Design. This is an authentic device designed by Huawei and Porsche Design. It’s a plastic card that has a nice little Porsche Design logo on the center and it’s also written in German. It tells you a bunch of other stuff. And on the left side here, we’re presented with the actual device. There’s a little pull tab that will give you this. Pull out this device. That is a nice looking phone. There it is-- the Huawei Porsche Design Mate 10.
We’ll lift this little tray up and put the card back in its holder. And for that $1225, you do get quite a few accessories for that price. Here we have a nice wallet flip case. You can put your phone in there. It covers and it has that display for the lock screen feature you have on the Huawei Mate 10. You have a SIM ejector tool. If you get a non-US version, you get a dual SIM Huawei Mate 10. But if you buy the US version, you don’t get the dual SIM. I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure I read that somewhere. Here is the US-rated wall plug, 0.75 amps input and 2 amps output. You also get some cables-- a USB-C to USB-A cable. You get two USB-Cs to USB-A cable so that’s nice. You also get a set of earphones that is also USB-C. And you also get a car charger. So I’m assuming that’s why they give you two USB-C and USB-As because one is for your wall and one is for your car. You get two USB ports there so you can charge something else. I mean not a whole lot that you get with the actual money but everything is kind of nice and nicely packaged and presented for you.
So let’s go ahead and take of this protective coating. The phone will never look this good again. It does have a screen protector already on there and here we go. So this is the Huawei Mate 10 Porsche Design and man oh man, it is beautiful. It has almost a jet black or diamond black coating on the bezels. On the back, it’s completely black. It has a nice design for the Porsche Design on the back there. You can see your dual camera lie up there. In the front, we have that 6-inch display. It’s AMOLED, 18:9. We have a single USB-C port on the bottom. We’ve got basically nothing on the left side, except the SIM tray and you’ve got your volume rocker, lock switch, and fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone. I’ll go ahead and set this up and I’ll be right back for some impressions and overall first impressions of the Huawei Mate 10 Porsche Design.
Okay so I have it all booted up and ready to go. And the first overall impressions of this device is it’s a super luxurious feel in the hands. It doesn’t have a super cool touch to it, even though it is metal. It has this beautiful, literally looks like black platinum or something. It’s called black diamond, it’s super reflective. Obviously, if you don’t like fingerprints, you’re not going to like this phone just because the short time I’ve already been touching it, it’s fingerprints galore on the back side. But I can’t tell you enough. This is a really pretty device. If it was completely clean 24/7, this would be one of the best-looking Huawei devices I’ve seen in a very long time.
I do like the dual cameras on the back of the Huawei Mate 10. I think it’s pretty solid, it’s not super obnoxious unlike the iPhone X or the 8 Plus. It is a fairly wide lens-- it’s up to 1.6 aperture, which is crazy. And it is a Leica lens so you’re gonna have pretty good optics on the Huawei Mate 10. Software-wise, it runs Android 8.0 Oreo, does have EMUI, it’s a beautiful 6-inch AMOLED display and has a massive 4,000mAh battery. This is basically a Huawei Mate 10 just with Porsche Design all over it. You have that Porsche Design branding on the front and PD kind of integrated into one character on the back in terms of branding. Other than that, it’s a very sleek device. Again, this is a very niche product. Not everyone’s going to be buying a Porsche Design Huawei Mate 10 but for example, if you like the Porsche Design brand and you really like Huawei devices, then this may be a very good phone for you. Just because it is a flagship device; it has the Kirin 970, 8-core processor, 6GB of RAM, that’s crazy amounts of power. This is definitely no slouch of a device. I’m definitely really interested in messing around with this phone. This is my first time personally using the Huawei Mate 10. I’ve seen it in the flesh before in a couple of other places. But this is the first time for me to run it as a device here.
Let me know what you like to see on the Huawei Mate 10 Porsche Design. Would you like to see an in-depth review of this device? Or would you like to talk about just solely the design components of this brand new and really shiny and glossy fingerprint magnet Porsche Design branded device?
