Right on schedule, Apple has released iOS 11 and watchOS 4 to the public.
iOS 11 is now rolling out to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, and iPhone 5s. It’s also available to the iPad mini 2, 3, and 4; iPad 5th generation; iPad Air and iPad Air 2; and all iPad Pro models. iPod touch 6th generation owners can download it, too.
The update to iOS 11 is a big one for Apple’s mobile platform. It adds new features like a Files app, an updated App Store, Siri improvements, augmented reality support, and a redesigned Control Center that you can customize to fit the apps and settings that you use most. Other improvements include Do Not Disturb while driving and lane guidance and speed limits in Apple Maps.
There are some big iPad-specific additions in iOS 11, too. There’s a Dock to give you quick access to your favorite apps no matter where you are in iOS, improved multitasking, Drag and Drop for moving content from one app to another, and improvements to the Apple Pencil functionality and the QuickType keyboard.
One other detail worth noting is that while iOS 11 will support Apple Pay in Messages for sending money to friends, that feature won’t be included with iOS 11’s public launch. Apple says that this feature will roll out this fall.
To update to iOS 11, go into Settings on your device and then select General > Settings > Software Update.
Apple is also releasing watchOS 4 to Apple Watch owners today. This update adds some new features of its own, like a new Siri watch face that aims to proactively show you information.
There are also some Workout improvements, like a quick switch feature that’ll let you change from one workout type to another during a single sessions and an evening push that’ll let you know when you’re close to a goal at the end of your day and push you to complete it.
To update to watchOS 4, grab your paired iPhone and launch the Watch app. You’ll then select General and Software Update.
