Amazon’s Alexa assistant is making its way to a new device today.
The official Amazon app for iOS is gaining Alexa support. With it, you can interact with the Amazon app much like you would an Echo, asking it to order products from Amazon, play some music, ask it for the weather, or even ask things like “Who is Abraham Lincoln?” You can access Alexa by pressing the microphone icon in the upper right corner of the Amazon app.
To get Alexa on your iPhone, all that you need to do is install the Amazon app or update it if you’ve already got it. The update will begin rolling out today and should hit all US users by next week.
It’s kind of neat to see Amazon officially bring Alexa to iOS devices, giving Echo fans a way to access their favorite assistant on their iPhones, too. The downside is that because you can’t really mess with the defaults on iOS is that every time you want to use Alexa, you’ll have to launch the Amazon app and press the microphone icon. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck with Apple’s Siri assistant.
