Nearly six months after originally announcing the HTC One M9+, the folks at HTC have taken the wraps off of a slightly beefed up model.
The HTC One M9+ Supreme Camera Edition is now officially official, and as you might guess, its updates are all about the camera. The device has a 21-megapixel rear shooter with a feature described by HTC’s Jeff Gordon as “3-in-1 fusion focus.” That means that this One M9+ has three forms of autofocus: laser, phase detection, and traditional. To make room for the laser autofocus, HTC ditched the secondary Duo Camera found on the original One M9+.
Besides the beefed up rear camera, the One M9+ Supreme Camera Edition is largely the same as the One M9+ that was announced earlier this year. It’s got a 5.2-inch 2560x1440 display, UltraPixel front-facing camera octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD slot, and a 2840mAh battery. HTC has also thrown in a fingerprint reader, front-facing BoomSound speakers, Android, and its custom Sense user interface.
The HTC One M9+ Supreme Camera Edition will launch in October at a price of approximately $630. Unfortunately for folks that want to try that 3-in-1 fusion focus system, the One M9+ Supreme Camera Edition is a Taiwan exclusive, so most of us probably won’t ever get to put that fancy camera to the test.
HTC today also announced the Butterfly 3, which is the same device as the J Butterfly that was announced in May, just for Taiwan instead of Japan. The Butterfly 3 has a 5.2-inch 2560x1440 display and 13-megapixel camera on its face, and 20.2-megapixel rear camera with a secondary depth-sensing Duo Camera. Inside the new Butterfly is a Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD slot, a 2700mAh battery, and Android 5.0 beneath HTC’s Sense UI.
