Bad news, physical keyboard enthusiasts: Ryan Seacrest’s Typo keyboard case for the iPhone is dead.
BlackBerry announced today that it’s entered into a settlement with Typo Products, makers of the Typo keyboard case. As part of the agreement, Typo has agreed to permanently discontinue sales of any keyboard cases for devices with a screen size smaller than 7.9 inches. That means that all of the Typo iPhone cases are dead, but Typo’s keyboards for the iPad can live on. Indeed, navigating to Typo’s online store shows that the iPhone cases are nowhere to be found.
BlackBerry has been battling Typo over its iPhone keyboard cases ever since the first model debuted in early 2014. And while the second Typo looked less like a BlackBerry keyboard than the first, BlackBerry felt that it was still infringing on their design, so they targeted it too. It looked like BlackBerry was going to continue hammering on Typo for the foreseeable future, and so Typo likely decided that it’s not worth continuing to pour cash into fighting BlackBerry while also trying to develop and sell its products. That’s bad news for any iPhone users that long for physical keys on their device, but hey, you might be able to snag one second-hand.
