The LG G4 is likely going to be shown off at an event on April 28, but LG Display has gone ahead and shown off the device’s screen ahead of time.
LG Display has announced a new 5.5-inch QHD (2560x1440) LCD panel that offers Advanced In-Cell Touch technology, which embeds a touch sensor within the LCD itself rather than placing the sensor on top of the LCD. This gives the entire LCD panel a thinner body and “excellent touch response,” even with water drops on the screen. The LCD panel also offers a higher contrast ratio and a 30 percent brightness increase without an increase in power consumption.
LG Display says that it’s started mass production of this new QHD LCD panel and that it will be used in LG Electronics’ “flagship smartphone to be unveiled at the end of the month.”
LG is holding an event at the end of April, and while it hasn’t come out and said that the G4 will be the star of the show, both the invitation and the timing of the event suggest that that’ll be the case. As for the display, the LG G3 features a 5.5-inch QHD display, so it’s no surprise that the G4 will feature something similar. But while its size and resolution are the same as the G3’s screen, the display on the G4 sounds like it’s going to be an improvement in other areas, including brightness and touch response.
