Motorola has already pushed Android 5.0 out to the Moto X (2nd Gen.) and Moto G (2nd Gen.), and we even spent some hands-on time with the Moto G-flavored Lollipop. However, we haven’t heard much about how the Android 5.0 updates for the other devices are coming along. That changes today.
Luciano Carvalho, a Motorola engineer, took to Google+ today to say that Moto devices from 2013 and 2014 will be bumped up to Android 5.0 “really soon.” He went on to say that while some people are receiving Android 5.0.2 updates now, those are only soak tests that need to be tested before they’re pushed to a larger audience. He also explained that updates like Lollipop take time to test, especially when they include bugs both in Google’s software and their own that need to be ironed out.
Carvalho went on to tell 2013 Moto device owners how they can prepare for Lollipop’s arrival. He says that those folks will need to install the Motorola Update Services app from the Play Store. And if it’s showing as not compatible with your device, don’t fret, because it should be made available “soon.”
So there you go, Motorola users. While “really soon” isn’t exactly a concrete time frame that we can mark down on our calendars or anything, it’s nice to at least get an update from Motorola on Android 5.0 that lets us know that it’s still hard at work on its updates. Here’s to hoping that those Lollipop updates do indeed begin soon.
