It’s a new month, and Microsoft is celebrating by making a new acquisition.
Microsoft is going to acquire Acompli, a company that makes mobile email apps for Android and iOS. The app aims to help you quickly see important messages by bringing those emails up first and then stuffing other messages into an “Other” folder. The apps also let you hide emails for a set period of time, quickly view your calendar, add attachments from Dropbox and Google Drive and quickly view emails, meetings and more from select people.
Microsoft says that it plans to team its Outlook email team with the Acompli group with the goal of offering “fantastic cross-platform apps that support the variety of email services people use today and help them accomplish more.” The Redmond firm goes on to tease that more will be revealed “in the coming months.” If you’re an existing Acompli user, your app and accounts will continue to work as normal, and Acompli says that it plans to continue adding and improving features on a regular basis.
Acompli looks like a nice, well-designed app that aims to help users get their work done more quickly by making it so that they don’t have to jump between multiple apps to view their email and calendar, add attachments and more. And while instant messaging and apps like WhatsApp and Snapchat are gaining popularity, email is still a heavily-used tool for a lot of people, especially for work. Acompli ought to help Microsoft improve its email offerings.
Have you ever used Acompli on Android or iOS?
