Since its debut back in late October, we’ve watched Android 4.4 make its way to several recent devices like the Galaxy Note 3 and Moto X. Now that most newer hardware is on KitKat, it’s time for older phones to get a taste of Google’s latest treat.
Sprint announced today that its version of the Samsung Galaxy Note II is now receiving an update to Android 4.4. The update bumps the Note II up to software version L900VPUBNE2 and includes KitKat as well as version 2.0 of Knox, Samsung’s enterprise security software.
The Sprint Note II’s update will roll out to users in batches until June 16. If you use that model as your daily driver, you can manually check for the update by heading into Settings > System Update > Update Samsung Software > Check now.
In other aging Android update news, U.S. Cellular has revealed that it’s now pushing Android 4.4.2 to its Galaxy S III. This update moves the USCC GSIII to baseband version R530UVXCND4 and includes goodies like a refreshed user interface, faster multitasking, wireless printing support and more. Just as with the Sprint Note II, you U.S. Cellular Galaxy S III owners can check for you update by going into Settings > About Device > Software Update.
Samsung confirmed earlier this year that it would push Android 4.4 updates to several of its Galaxy devices, so it’s not a surprise to see the Sprint Note II and U.S. Cellular S III get treated to KitKat. It’s still nice to see, though, and I’m sure that the owners of the aging devices are happy to be getting the latest version of Android.
