Earlier this week, Oppo followed through on its partnership with Cyanogen Inc. by kicking off sales of its limited N1 CyanogenMod edition, giving consumers the chance to purchase a version of its flagship smartphone with CyanogenMod preloaded. Now anyone that bought the regular N1 can run CyanogenMod as well, as Oppo has officially released the N1's CyanogenMod ROM.
The CyanogenMod ROM for the Oppo N1 gives users the opportunity to run CyanogenMod 10.2 on their device rather than the combo of Android 4.2.2 and Oppo's custom ColorOS user interface that comes preloaded on the normal N1. Just as it promised when it first introduced the N1, Oppo is making it easy for its customers to load the CyanogenMod ROM onto its device: After loading the ROM onto an SD card and inserting that card into the device, users only need to select System Update in the N1's Tools folder, select "Local update" and then install the ROM from the SD card. Returning to Oppo's ColorOS is as simple as repeating the process with ColorOS firmware rather than CyanogenMod.
In addition to giving N1 users a bit more of a vanilla Android experience than what ColorOS offers, the CyanogenMod ROM for the N1 is specially-made for Oppo's device and includes support for its special features like the rear O-Touch Panel, rotating camera and double-tap to wake. That's great news because it means that N1 owners that want to give CyanogenMod a try can do just that without being forced to miss out on the features that make the N1 unique.
