Staying in the top three for another week, the LG G2 is still a fan favorite. Check out today's featured user review by PhoneDog fan JC Scott.
"Fantastic phone...so far" By JC SCOTT on October 7, 2013
Let me just start by saying that I am not an expert. I am just a regular guy who tries to keep up on the latest mobile stuff. I do care about specs, but above all, I care about how the phone functions for daily use. So moving on, ok this phone is freaking awesome. I've had it for a little over a week on T-Mobile and it's been great. There are a couple things that I am going to keep an eye on as the time goes on and I'll get to those in a bit. I'm going to try to break this review down by the things that people seem to be most interested about and the things that are most important to me.
Hardware and Buttons:
Simply put, I love them. They are very easy to reach and my fingers do fall to them naturally when I hold the phone. I, like Aaron, even found myself trying to reach for them when I grabbed a different phone.
Display:
Awesome. Viewing angles are 180 degrees and the colors are vivid and vibrant. Nothing seems too washed out or mis-represented, but again, I'm no expert. It's great for me and I've had no issues.
Camera:
Freaking amazing. That's all I need to say. Never used a better one on a smartphone. It will be more than sufficient for any basic photography needs you may have.
Software:
LG's UI is actually pretty cool. I like how it works and it's very fluid. Knock-on does work. It does take 2 or 3 times of trying more often than I would like (probably about 30% of the time), but it's not bad enough to be annoying. Opening and closing apps is snappy and very responsive, and I've had several apps open at a time and this phone never skipped a beat. In short, it works great.
Battery life:
Battery life has been great. I unplug my phone at around 7 am every morning and never have to plug it back even after I go to bed at around midnight every night. Usually, I still have around 15-20% life left when I plug it in at midnight. I consider myself a moderate user. I work with kids and teenagers a lot so I spend a lot of time texting and using social media. I also answer emails throughout the day and occasionally watch a YouTube video or two. Sometimes I'll do a couple of episodes on Netflix and I still get the same battery life. I also use navigation at least once or twice a day. I have never noticed any issues.
Cons:
There is really only one issue I have noticed with this phone. Lag. Believe or not, I have experienced lag on this phone more than a few times a day. The main time I have noticed is right after I send a text message in the stok messaging app and I am backing out of the app. The phone will pause for a couple seconds as it is working. If I go directly to home, it works just fine, but if I try to back out, it pauses. However, if I do leave a thread open and go back home without backing out, notifications for new text messages will not appear in the notification bar. The sound will still go off, but notifications will not appear. I'm not sure if these issues are due to the stock messaging app or the phone itself but either way they are concerning.
Misc:
Everything else have been great for me. Call quality is fantastic, all radios connect quickly and reliably, and all the advertised features work as expected.
Overall, I love this phone. It has been super fast and extremely reliable and it does live up to the reputation it has gotten from the reviews.
