Apple's iPhone 5 will continue its U.S. carrier tour later this week, as it's slated to be available through Straight Talk starting on Jan. 11. Both the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4 will be offered through Straight Talk and will be sold in 2,000 Walmart stores and on Walmart.com. Interested customers will be able to pick up a 16GB iPhone 5 in either black or white for $649, while the 8GB iPhone 4 in black or white will be available for $449. Walmart will also allow customers to charge the purchase of an iPhone 5 or iPhone 4 to a Walmart Credit Card, with payments set at $25 per month.
On the plan side of things, Straight Talk has a couple of offerings for consumers to choose from. The cheaper of the two is a $45 per month plan that includes unlimited talk, text and data. There's also a $60 per month option that tacks on unlimited international calling to over 1,000 locations in countries like Mexico and Canada.
Straight Talk isn't the first prepaid operator to launch the iPhone 5 in the U.S., as C Spire Wireless and Cricket both began selling Apple's new smartphone a week after its initial launch. Still, it's good to see the iPhone 5 continue to spread to more no-contract brands, and Walmart's financing option should help make both the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4 available to even more customers. Do any of you currently use an iPhone one of the several prepaid operators here in the U.S.?
