Good news today for Android users that tend to be stingy about their data usage, as it appears that Google has flipped the switch on smart app updates in the Play store. Noticed earlier today by Android Police, this feature brings delta updates to the store, meaning that when it's time for a user to install an app update, only the changes included in the update will be download. Previously, the entire app would be downloaded when an update was installed.
Smart app updates were originally announced back at Google I/O, and it's nice to see them finally being introduced into the Google Play store. Not only will the feature save time when it comes to downloading and installing app updates, it'll help users with limited data plans to use up less of their allotment while doing some out-and-about app updating. If you're interested in checking it out for yourself, pay close attention to the download progress meter while downloading an app update.
