A few days ago, ASUS made Eee Pad Transformer owners everywhere do their happy dance when it said that the device's update to Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to arrive sometime in mid-February. It looks like the original Transformer may not be the only one to get a little somethin' somethin' from ASUS next month, though, as the company has revealed on its official Twitter account that the Transformer Prime's "root tool" (aka bootloader unlock tool) should be arriving in February. An exact date wasn't mentioned.
There was a bit of a brouhaha earlier this month when Transformer Prime users found out that the bootloader on their shiny new Android slate had been locked down. However, ASUS quickly responded by saying that it recognized that many folks like to tinker with their gadgets, and so it would be releasing an unlock tool to satisfy consumer demand. It's great to see ASUS reacting to its customers and getting an unlock tool in a relatively timely manner. (As long as it does indeed land next month, that is.) Sure, this news may not be quite as exciting for as many people as the arrival of the Prime's Android 4.0 update, but for folks that don't mind voiding their warranty and tweaking their devices to their heart's content, February can't come quickly enough.
