The Sony Ericsson Sony Nozomi has been the subject of a few sets of leaked photos in the recent months, teasing us from afar with its rumored 4.3-inch 720p display and translucent band around its bottom. Just like several other devices, though, today the Nozomi made the leap into official-ness at CES. Dubbed the Sony Xperia S, this thing's packing a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 12-megapixel camera with Exmor R sensor, NFC, PlayStation certification and the aforementioned gap-free 720p Reality Display that measures in at 4.3 inches. It'll launch with Android 2.3 Gingerbread in "select markets" near the end of this quarter, and an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to arrive in Q2 2012.
Sony also announced today that, after buying out Ericsson's portion of the Sony Ericsson joint venture, its mobile division will be branded "Sony Mobile Communications." As you can tell above, the Xperia S (as well as the previously-announced Xperia ion) both feature "Sony" tattoos, so it looks like we can expect that branding to be the norm going forward.
The Xperia S may not pack as large a display as its AT&T-bound Xperia ion brother, but it's still got a pretty impressive feature set thanks to the 720p screen resolution and 12-megapixel camera, and the update to Ice Cream Sandwich that's in the pipeline certainly helps make the Xperia S even more attractive. Plus, there's that unique band across the bottom of the handset's face, which I think looks pretty spiffy. (That's right. Spiffy.) What do you all think of the Xperia S?
