Well, this is interesting. The BlackBerry device you're looking at above has been making the rounds of the several sites over the past week or so and has been referred to as a BlackBerry R47 or 9980. This mysterious 'Berry shares a lot of similarities with the Bold 9900, not only spec-wise but also in terms of port placement. That's lead to a lot of confusion as to whether this device is a cheap knockoff or a bonafide BlackBerry, but according to the folks at CrackBerry, this handset is indeed the real deal. The site claims that the phone is codenamed "Knight" and has been designed by Porsche. As far as release details go, it's possible that the Knight could be released as a limited-run special edition, although there's also a chance that the R47 will never even make it to market.
Keeping up with the BlackBerry Knight news, a video of the device in the wild has been posted by BerryCN. A report out of the Chinese site corroborates the claims that the 9980 features specs similar to those found on the 9900, including 3G connectivity, NFC, and BlackBerry 7. Check out a lengthy hands-on video with the mystery 'Berry below.
So what do you think, RIM fanatics? The Knight 9980 definitely features a different look and feel compared to every other BlackBerry we've seen as of late, although whether or not that's a good thing depends on your personal taste. It seems unlikely we'll ever see the Knight officially launch on a U.S. carrier considering that it's rumored to be a Porsche-made special edition device, but hey, it could be a good purchase if you've got an extra pile or two of cash and want to treat yourself or the BlackBerry lover in your life that has everything. Would any of you pick up this BlackBerry R47 if you had the opportunity?
