We haven't heard much from Essential lately, but the company could have an announcement to make soon.
Essential CEO Andy Rubin has teased that his company is making an announcement. Yesterday Droid-Life spotted Rubin replying to a nine month old tweet that praises the Essential Phone and urges him to announce a new model. "Thanks. We'll make an announcement soon. Hang tight," Rubin said.

The Essential Phone was discontinued late in 2018 and is now two years old, but it's still compatible with the Android Q beta and is typically getting new security updates the same day as Google's Pixel phones. That's one reason that a lot of folks want to see Rubin and Essential take another crack at making a phone.
There haven't been many leaks or details about what a new Essential Phone could be, but one report in October 2018 did say that Essential was working on a new device with a focus on AI. This phone would reportedly use AI to respond to your text messages and book appointments, and it would have a small screen to push you to interact with the phone using your voice. Essential itself has said even less about its next device, teasing only that it's "hard at work on [its] next mobile device" when it confirmed that the Essential Phone had been discontinued last year.
