Snapchat Spotlight is a viral video feed that's taking on TikTok

Snapchat today launched a new feature aimed at highlighting the coolest and most creative videos that its users can make.

Spotlight is now available in Snapchat. You can find it by tapping on the little "Play" triangle tab in your Snapchat apps' navigation bar. Once there, you'll get a feed of vertical videos from other Snapchat users that you can just keep scrolling through, similar to TikTok.

Anyone can submit videos for Spotlight, but the clips are moderated by Snapchat. The company says it's doling out more than $1 million to creators in Spotlight every day, so there's incentive for users to create and submit clips that they think will go viral.

If you stumble on a video that you like in Spotlight, you can like it or bookmark it. You can also easily share it with your friends on Snapchat. There are no public comments, though.

Snapchat says Spotlight is rolling out in 11 countries today: the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the U.K., Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and France. More countries will be added soon.

Many people use Snapchat to share fun photos and videos from their daily life with their friends. But lately there's been a huge rise in the popularity of more entertaining content that's mean to go viral, like on TikTok, and Spotlight appears to be Snapchat's attempt to get a piece of that pie. We'll have to wait and see if Spotlight can compete and get popular, viral content, too, but it does have some things going for it like 249 million Snapchat users and the $1 million daily payouts.
