Ting Mobile rolls out new, more simplified plans

Ever since its launch in 2012, one of the main features of Ting Mobile is that it's offered usage-based billing so that you could only pay for the data, text, and voice minutes that you need each month. Following a recent acquisition by Dish, though, Ting is changing things up.

Today Ting launched four new rate plans. The Flex plan is the most similar to what Ting used to offer, giving you unlimited talk and text for $10 per month and then pay-per-use billing for 5G and 4G LTE data with pricing of $5 per GB that's shared across your lines.

The Set 5GB plan includes unlimited talk and text plus 5GB of 5G and 4G LTE data, all of which can be used as a hotspot.

If you need more data, there are two unlimited options to choose from. The $45 Unlimited plan includes unlimited talk and text plus 22GB of 5G and 4G LTE data, plus unlimited data at 2G speeds after that. Up to 12GB of your high-speed data can be used for mobile hotspot. The $60 Unlimited Pro plan bumps your high-speed data allotment to 35GB, up to 30GB of which can be used for mobile hotspot.

Ting will also let you add more high-speed data at a rate of $5 per GB if you use up all of your allotment before the month is up. Any unused top-up data will carry over to your next month.

If you're an existing Ting customer who likes the old pay-per-use style of billing, you can keep your current rates if you'd like.

Ting's old pricing was aimed at folks who either most of their time on Wi-Fi or just didn't use much cellular data at all. For example, you would pay $6 for a line of service and then you could get 100 minutes for $3, 100MB for $3, and 100 messages for $3, or you could omit one of those features if you just didn't use it. The new Ting plans simplify and modernize things a bit, giving you unlimited talk and text on all plans, while still offering some flexibility depending on how much data you need every month.
