PlayStation 5 won't be available to buy in stores on launch day

Many people have a tradition of lining up at a local store overnight for a new console launch, but it looks like there won't be any lines for the PlayStation 5.

Sony confirmed today that all PS5 launch day sales will take place online. This decision is meant to keep everyone safe from COVID-19, and it includes all of Sony's retail partners.

"No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase," Sony explained today.

If you've already pre-ordered a PS5 and are planning to pick it up at a local retailer, you should still be able to do that. It's best to check with the retailer that you pre-ordered from to confirm their plans.

Lining up for a new console overnight can be a fun experience as you bond with the people around you and make new friends. Because the coronavirus is still an issue, though, it's a good decision to have all launch day sales take place online to help keep both consumers and retail employees safe.
