iOS 14.2 beta 2 update released to developers with new music recognition feature

Nearly two weeks after pushing out its first iOS 14.2 beta release, Apple has another beta ready to go.

iOS 14.2 beta 2 and iPadOS 14.2 beta 2 are now available to registered developers (via MacRumors). The update will likely roll out to public testers soon, too. If you want to give iOS 14.2 a try before it's released to the public, you can enroll in the Apple Beta Software Program.

So far, there are a few new features that've been discovered in iOS 14.2. The first is a Shazam Music Recognition feature, shown above, that can identify music playing around you as well as music playing in apps, even when you're wearing headphones.

You'll be able to add Shazam Music Recognition to your iOS Control Center and then identify songs by just tapping on the button.

The iOS 14.2 beta 2 release also includes an updated Now Playing widget for Control Center. When you're not playing music, it'll show your recently played albums to help you start playing tunes more quickly.

The update brings a redesigned interface for AirPlay to make it easier to beam music to multiple AirPlay 2-enabled devices, too, as well as a new "People Detection" feature in the Magnifier app that allows people with low vision to use their iPhone camera to determine how far away other people are.

Also released today is watchOS 7.1 beta 2 for the Apple Watch (via MacRumors). No new features have been discovered inside watchOS 7.1 yet, but that could change by the time Apple releases the update to the public.

Apple hasn't said when iOS 14.2, iPadOS 14.2, and watchOS 7.1 will be released to the public.
