Google Pixel phones begin receiving August security update

Another new month means another round of Pixel security updates from Google.

Google today released the August 2020 security update for its Pixel phones. It's available for the Pixel 2 and 2 XL, Pixel 3 and 3 XL, Pixel 3a and 3a XL, and Pixel 4 and 4 XL. Here are the build numbers for the new update:

  • Pixel 2 (XL): QQ3A.200805.001
  • Pixel 3 (XL): QQ3A.200805.001
  • Pixel 3a (XL): QQ3A.200805.001
  • Pixel 4 (XL): QQ3A.200805.001

The new update should be rolling out over the air to those Pixel phones starting today. You can check for it by going into your Settings app and tapping System > Advanced > System update. As usual, Google is also offering factory images and OTA images of the new update if you'd prefer to sideload your phone's update that way.

There's an Android Security Bulletin that details all of the vulnerabilities that've been patched with this August 2020 update. Google also has a Pixel Security Bulletin that details the vulnerabilities that've been patched specifically on Pixel phones. There are no functional patches for Pixel phones mentioned by Google.
