Apple reveals iPhone 12 models will launch 'a few weeks later' than usual

Following recent rumblings that the 5G iPhone 12 could launch a little later than new iPhones typically do, Apple today basically confirmed that that'll be the case.

Speaking during Apple's Q3 2020 earnings call, Apple CFO Luca Maestri was talking about the company's expectations for the September quarter. He said that last year, Apple began selling new iPhones in September, but that this year Apple expects supply of new iPhones to be available "a few weeks later."

"As you know, last year we started selling new iPhones in late September. This year, we project supply to be available a few weeks later," Maestri said.

We've heard some rumors saying that the iPhone 12 will launch in October and execs from Broadcom and Qualcomm, whose components will be used in a 5G iPhone, have both hinted that Apple's 2020 iPhones will be slightly delayed. Still, it's a big deal for Apple to basically come out and confirm that this year's iPhones will launch a few weeks later than normal.

In recent years, Apple has announced its new iPhones in early September and then released them in late September. If the iPhone 12 models are released "a few weeks later" like Apple says, that suggests we could see them arrive in mid- to late October.
