Right on schedule, HTC today took the wraps off of two new devices, including its first 5G smartphone.
The HTC U20 5G is the first 5G-capable phone from the folks at HTC. It's got a Snapdragon 765G processor with an integrated 5G modem, and HTC says that the U20 5G supports both standalone and non-standalone 5G networks.
Another highlight feature of the HTC U20 5G is its quad rear camera array. The main cam is a 48MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture and there's also an 8MP ultra wide camera with 118-degree field of view. Rounding out the quartest is a 2MP macro camera for close-up photos and a 2MP depth photo to help add some bokeh to your portrait mode shots.
Around front there's a 6.8-inch 2400x1080 screen with a hole-punch in its upper left corner where the 32MP selfie camera lives.
Diving inside of the HTC U20 5G, we're met with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage, plus a microSD card slot if you want to add more storage. HTC has packed a whopping 5000mAh battery into the U20 5G, and there's Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging support to let you refill at battery at up to 18W.
The HTC U20 5G also features a rear fingerprint reader, USB-C port, and Android 10.
The second device introduced today is the HTC Desire 20 Pro. This is a non-5G alternative to the U20, packing some of the same specs including the quad rear camera array, rear fingerprint reader, and 5000mAh battery.
There are a few changes to the HTC Desire 20 Pro worth being aware of. The processor has been swapped out for a Snapdragon 665 chipset and the display is slightly smaller, being a 6.5-inch 2340x1080 screen. The selfie camera is a 25MP sensor in a hole-punch in the upper left corner of the screen.
The Desire 20 Pro's RAM and storage have also been lowered to 6GB and 128GB, respectively, but there is still a microSD card present here. One thing the HTC Desire 20 Pro has but the HTC U20 5G lacks is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
As noted by Engadget, the HTC U20 5G will be available for pre-order in Taiwan starting July 1 for NT$18,990 ($640 USD) while the HTC Desire 20 Pro will arrive a bit sooner, launching on June 18 for NT$8,990 ($303 USD). There's been no official announcement about international availability, but Engadget sources have said that these launches are just a Taiwanese initiative, so you probably shouldn't hold your breath for a wider release.
