Sony's WH1000XM3 are often praised as some of the best over-ear noise-cancelling headphones on the market. That doesn't mean that Sony isn't working on a new and improved model, though, and today info on the features of the WH1000XM3's follow-up has leaked out.
A listing for the Sony WH1000XM4 headphones has appeared on Walmart's online store, complete with a full list of features. One of the highlight features of the WH1000XM3 is its noise cancellation, and Sony promises that the new model will include the same "industry-leading digital noise cancellation" tech.
A notable new feature coming to the WH1000XM4 is multipoint connection support. This means that you'll be able to pair the headphones with two Bluetooth devices at the same time. You can switch your headphones to either device by touching a button, and if you're connected to two devices like a tablet and a phone and one starts ringing, the WH1000XM4 can detect that and automatically connect to the right one.
The listing also touts features like Precise Voice Pickup Technology that utilizes five built-in microphones and audio signal processing to pick up your voice and make it sound clearer to the person on the other end of your call. Another feature listed is Adaptive Sound Control, which Sony says allows the headphones to recognize the places you visit and adjust sound for better listening.
Another feature included in the listing is Edge-AI. Sony touts that this "upscales compressed digital music files in real time" to get you better sound from your compressed music files.
Touch controls will let you change tracks, adjust volume, accept calls, and launch your digital assistant by touching the panels of the headphones, much like the WH1000XM3. And quick charging support means you'll be able to get 5 hours of playback from your WH1000XM4 headphones after just 10 minutes of charge time.
The Walmart produce page lists the WH1000XM4 headphones at $348, which makes sense because that's what the WH1000XM3 model is selling for right now. Unfortunately, there's no word yet on when the new headphones might launch, but they could be coming very soon if there's a full product page on Walmart's website.
