Samsung Galaxy Buds update adds features from newer Buds+

Samsung's original Galaxy Buds may have been replaced by a newer Plus model earlier this year, but Samsung is showing the older Buds some love with a big update this week.

Samsung today announced a new update for the Galaxy Buds that brings some features of the newer Galaxy Buds+ to the older Galaxy Buds. This includes support for Microsoft's Swift Pair that makes it easier to pair the Galaxy Buds with a Windows 10 PC.

Also packed into this update is Ambient Sound. When enabled, Ambient Sound allows you to hear what's going on around you without taking your earbuds out, making it so you don't have to keep pulling them out and putting them back in to hear the outside world. You can also use Ambient Sound with just one earbud in.

Finally, Spotify integration with the original Galaxy Buds will let you launch Spotify and start listening where you left off with a tap and hold gesture. You can also tap and hold a second time to have Spotify recommend playlists for you to help you easily find new music. These gestures can be set up in the "Touch Pad" menu of the Galaxy Wearable app.

This update is available to the Samsung Galaxy Buds starting today. You'll need an Android phone running running the Lollipop version of the OS or higher plus more than 1.5GB of RAM. Also necessary is the latest version of Samsung's Galaxy Wearable app.

It's good to see Samsung showing some love to the original Galaxy Buds. They may have been replaced by a newer model earlier this year, but many folks are probably still using the Galaxy Buds because they're only a year old. Now those people are getting new features that are also present in the Galaxy Buds+, breathing some new life into the original Galaxy Buds.
