Motorola Edge aims to be a more affordable 5G Android phone

Alongside the new Edge+ flagship, Motorola today introduced a non-Plus version of the Edge that's meant to be a more affordable option.

The Motorola Edge features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ OLED display and, like the Edge+, this one's got curved edges and a 90Hz refresh rate. Things are a bit different on the inside, though, because the Motorola Edge has a Snapdragon 765 processor rather than an 865 like its flagship sibling.

Moto has reduced the RAM in the regular Edge a bit to reduce its price, too, giving the phone 4GB of RAM. There's 128GB of built-in storage that you can expand upon with a microSD card if you'd like, plus a 4500mAh battery with 18W wired fast charging support.

Another area where the Edge differs from the Edge+ are its cameras. There's a triple camera array on the Edge just like the Edge+, but the regular Edge has "just" a 64MP main cam with f/1.8 aperture rather than a 108MP snapper like the Edge+. The standard Motorola Edge also includes a 16MP ultra-wide camera with 117-degree field of view and an 8MP telephoto cam with 2x optical zoom, plus a 25MP selfie camera around front.

The Motorola Edge will also include features like USB-C, a 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers, and Android 10. It'll have 5G, too, but will only support sub-6GHz 5G and not mmWave 5G.

Motorola says the Edge will land in the US later this year with more info coming in the summer. It's not talking much about the Edge's US pricing, but the phone will launch in Italy in May at a price of €699 ($756 USD). While we shouldn't assume that that'll be exactly how much the Motorola Edge will cost when it does arrive stateside, that does give us an idea of what kind of pricing Moto is thinking about for the Edge.

The Edge+ will cost $1,000 when it's released next month, so if Moto can offer the Edge for a few hundred dollars less, it could be an interesting option. It still has high-end features like a large OLED display with curved edges, triple rear camera setup, and 5G support, and the Snapdragon 765 is a perfectly capable chip. We're definitely looking forward to learning more about the Edge's launch and price in the US, so stay tuned and we'll update you when we know more.
