iPad Pro Magic Keyboard with trackpad now available for pre-order

When Apple introduced its new iPad Pro, it also unveiled a new Magic Keyboard accessory with built-in trackpad. At the time, we only knew that the new keyboard would launch sometime in May, but it looks like Apple is rolling it out a bit early.

The new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro is now available for to order from Apple, and the company says it'll begin arriving on customers' doorsteps next week. Pricing is set at $299 for the model that supports the 11-inch iPad Pro, while the larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro version costs $349.

As a reminder, this new Magic Keyboard with built-in trackpad supports the 2018 versions of the iPad Pro as well as the newer models. So if you're still rocking Apple's previous 11-inch or 12.9-inch iPad Pro, you can still get this new Magic Keyboard and treat yourself to a real trackpad.

In addition to that built-in trackpad, the new Magic Keyboard features full-size backlit keys. Those keys use a scissor mechanism with 1mm travel.

The iPad Pro attaches to the Magic Keyboard magnetically, and the floating design lets you adjust the viewing angle up to 130 degrees. There's USB-C pass-through charging, too, meaning that you can still use USB-C accessories with your iPad Pro while the Magic Keyboard is attached.

This isn't the first physical keyboard accessory that Apple has sold for the iPad, but it is the first with a built-in trackpad. That trackpad combined with the iOS 13.4 update that added iPad trackpad support will help to make these iPad Pro tablets into even better laptop replacements for a lot of people. With them, you can use the keyboard and trackpad to get work done, then take the iPad Pro out of the Magic Keyboard and use it standalone for more casual tablet use.
