Earlier today Sony spilled the beans on the PlayStation 5 spec list, and now Microsoft has responded with some Xbox Series X news.
Microsoft says that the Xbox Series X will launch Thanksgiving 2020. That date is November 26th, though Microsoft doesn't appear to have given that specific date quite yet.
Also of note is that that "Coming Thanksgiving 2020" wording was first spotted on the Xbox site in India. As of this post, the US page still reads "Coming holiday 2020", but the UK page now reads "Coming Thanksgiving 2020" as well.
UPDATE: Microsoft's Larry Hryb says that the Thanksgiving 2020 launch date given on these Xbox websites is "inaccurate" and that the company is "committed to launching Holiday 2020."
We got many of the specs of the Xbox Series X earlier this week. Microsoft has confirmed that its new console is powered by a custom designed processor that includes an 8-core AMD Zen 2 CPU at 3.8GHz and an RDNA 2-class GPU that can pump out 12 teraflops of performance.
There's 16GB of RAM packed into the Xbox Series X along with a 1TB custom NVMe SSD, a raw I/O throughput of 2.4GB/s, and a compressed I/O throughput of 4.8GB/s. You can expand storage with a 1TB expansion card, and support for USB 3.2 external HDD drives will be included as well.
Microsoft says that the performance target for the Xbox Series X is 4K at 60 frames per second (fps), with support for performance up to 120fps targeted.
Rounding out the Xbox Series X's spec sheet is a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray drive, hardware-accelerated DirectX ray tracing support, and backward compatibility that includes existing Xbox One games as well as backward-compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles.
