Yahoo Mobile offers unlimited data for $40 per month on Verizon's network

Yahoo may not be the internet giant that it once was but it does still offer email service, and now its name is attached to mobile service, too.

Yahoo Mobile is a new wireless phone service powered by Verizon, which owns the Yahoo brand. For $39.99 per month (inclusive of taxes) you get unlimited talk, text, and data, unlimited mobile hotspot usage, Yahoo Mail Pro ad-free email, and Account Pro for 24/7 Yahoo account customer service.

Download speeds on Yahoo Mobile will be 5-12Mbps while upload speeds will be 2-5Mbps. Those speeds could be slowed during times of congestion, though. Mobile hotspot usage is capped at 5Mbps and is limited to one tethered device at a time, and video streams at 480p.

Included with Yahoo Mobile service is access to Yahoo Mail Pro, which removes ads from your inbox and offers 1,000GB of space. You will need a Yahoo email account to sign up for Yahoo Mail Pro, but you'll have the chance to create one when you sign up for Yahoo Mobile if you don't already have one.

Yahoo Mobile sells a handful of different phones, including the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro, iPhone X, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 8, Pixel 3 and 3a, Pixel 4 and 4 XL, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy A50, Galaxy S10e, and Moto Z4.

You also have the option of bringing your own device onto Yahoo Mobile. Compatible devices include the iPhone 6 and later, Galaxy S9 and S9+, Pixel 3 and 3 XL, Pixel 3a and 3a XL, and Moto G7 Power. A compatibility checker can confirm if your current device works on Yahoo Mobile.

Finally, there are Yahoo Mobile apps for iOS and Android that you can use to manage your plan, buy new phones, and make payments. You can pay your bill using Venmo, Paypal, credit and debit cards, and Apple Pay.

It's kind of strange to see the Yahoo name attached to wireless service after it was so strongly associated with email years ago, but this Yahoo Mobile plan looks like a decent deal. While you're not getting full Verizon 4G LTE speeds, the download speeds you do get are enough for web browsing, social media, and streaming audio and video, and the included mobile hotspot is a nice addition.
