Google Assistant can now read webpages aloud on Android

Google Assistant can now read articles to you.

Google is now starting to roll out the Read It feature for Assistant that it first announced at CES in January. With this feature, you can say something like "Hey Google, read it" or "Hey Google, read this page" and the Google Assistant will begin reading aloud the webpage that you're looking at.

Your browser will scroll along with the page as Google Assistant is reading to help you follow along. You can also adjust the reading speed from 0.5x up to 2.0x, and there are multiple voices you can choose from as well.

If the page isn't in your native language, Google Assistant can trigger the browser to read in 42 languages. The translation menu will let you choose the desired language and all pages will be automatically translated and read aloud in that language.

This new feature can help with accessibility. Some folks have difficulties reading a longer webpage, but with this feature they can have the Google Assistant read aloud to them if they'd like. Plus, the Google Assistant uses the same intonation and rhythm as a person would if they were reading aloud, which should help to make the feature seem more natural.
