Samsung now says Galaxy Fold sold around 500,000 units

One month ago, a Samsung executive said that the company had sold one million Galaxy Fold phones. Samsung later clarified that that wasn't the case and that the exec may have been confused with Samsung's Galaxy Fold sales target. Now we're getting a different Fold sales figure.

Samsung has sold around half a million Galaxy Folds so far, said Koh Dong-jin, CEO of Samsung's mobile division. "I think we've sold 400,000 to 500,000 Galaxy Fold smartphones," Koh said, according to Yonhap News Agency.

Obviously that figure is quite a bit less than the one million sales that a Samsung exec mentioned last month. Still, sales of around half a million isn't bad for a smartphone that costs $2,000 and is one of the first foldable display smartphones on the market.

Samsung is working on a new foldable display phone with a clamshell form factor, which is different from the Galaxy Fold that opens up like a book. This new foldable is expected to have a 6.7-inch screen that's shaped like a traditional smartphone display when unfolded. The phone will likely be shown off at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event on February 11th.
