Galaxy Tab S6 5G tablet confirmed by Samsung

Samsung was one of the first to market with a 5G smartphone, and now it looks like it may be one of the first to launch a 5G tablet, too.

The Galaxy Tab S6 5G has been confirmed by Samsung. The device has quietly appeared on Samsung's South Korean website (via SamMobile), showing up alongside other Galaxy Tab models on a page for a tablet promotion.

A filing on the Bluetooth SIG's website shows that this Galaxy Tab S6 5G will carry the model number SM-T866N, which is slightly different from the regular Galaxy Tab S6 and its SM-T865N model number.

Beyond 5G connectivity, there's no confirmation on what kind of specs the Galaxy Tab S6 5G might offer. Samsung is using the same image for the Tab S6 5G as it is for the regular Tab S6 (shown at the top of this post), so it's possible that the 5G tablet will have features similar to the 4G model.

The Galaxy Tab S6 is a high-end tablet with a 10.5-inch 2560x1600 Super AMOLED screen, in-display fingerprint sensor, Snapdragon 855 processor, and up to 8GB of RAM. It's also packing a dual rear camera setup with a 13MP main cam and 5MP ultra wide angle snapper, an S Pen stylus that attaches to the tablet magnetically to charge, quad speakers, and a microSD card slot.

Ever since the first 5G smartphone hit the market, we've expected that a 5G tablet would eventually follow, and so it's no surprise to learn that Samsung is cooking one up right now. Now that the company has a couple of 5G phones on the market, it's got some experience making mobile devices. Plus, the first 5G tablet on the market is sure to get some extra attention, and so Samsung is taking its existing high-end tablet and sticking 5G support into to give us one of the first 5G tablets.
